As a chiropractor my answer is biased. But always start with the lowest form of invasiveness and work up if necessary. Surgeons do surgery. When you are a hammer the whole world looks like a nail. I treat and monitor. If improvement isn't on track I refer out. Shawn Nelson DC Pointes Chiropractic PLLC 22930 East 9 Mile Rd. Find a good Chiropractor! Personally I would look for someone who has a good working knowledge & experience with the Sacro-Occipital Technique, SOT.
Both are well trained in evaluating back pain. The opinion that I have is you take the least invasive treatments first but that has yet to be determined based upon your simple question when the history and exam are not part of the decision making.
