Anesthesiologist Questions Anesthesia

How can I best prepare for anesthesia?

I want to know how I can prepare for anesthesia? Is there any way to prepare? I'm just worried about experiencing any complication while I'm completely under. I want to know if there is anything I can do on my part to prevent any complications.

Hello,

First, be calm. Everything is going to be okay. Anesthesia now is very safe. Try to rest the day before surgery. Be fasting at least 8 hours before the surgery. Do not smoke or drink alcohol at least 48 hours before. Stop vitamin supplements one week before. Take your prescribed medications as indicated with a zip of water. Trust your doctors.
Good luck.
My general discussion of the risks of anesthesia is: you are at a higher risk driving in a car down the street. Good things to do: get adequate nutrition the day before and drink clear fluids up until a couple hours before going to the hospital. Relax...you’re very safe. Most complications are related to underlying illnesses.
All depends on type of surgery. The main thing is to follow the instructions provided by the pre-operative staff.

Don’t eat or drink anything for at least8 hours before, no matter what they tell you. Other than that, no prep needed
