Receding gums is more common than most people believe. There are a lot of factors that affect the progression of gum recession. The factors that can be controlled immediately include: reducing the force of brushing - toothbrushing should be a light pressure as if you're sweeping at the tooth; using soft bristle toothbrushes - bristles should not be harder than soft or extra soft; seeing your dentist on a regular basis - this can prevent the progression of gum disease.
Receding gums should not be that common for a 39 yrs old, unless you had other reasons such as grinding /clinching , or periodontal problem. Please visit your dentist for a clinical evaluation.
It is fairly common and the most common reasons for it are age, over brushing with too firm a toothbrush, chronic grinding, and over usage of electric toothbrushes with the the wrong technique for that brush.
It’s more common than you probably think. Receding “gums” happen in patients with Missaligned teeth, periodontal disease, truma ( sometimes done with improper toothbrushing techniques). You should see a dentist if you have this happening in your mouth.
Hello,
Receding gums happens for a variety of different reasons and because of this it is very common. Most people have receding gums in at least one area of their mouth.
One of the biggest reasons for receding gums is periodontal disease (periodontitis). There are a couple different forms of periodontal disease but the most common one usually starts in the persons late 30s or early 40s. The bacteria in plaque cause gingival (gum) inflammation. Then the bone around the tooth starts being resorbed (taken away) and this causes the tooth to become loose.
Another common reason for recession is a build up of calculus (hardened plaque). Since this calculus can not be removed by brushing or flossing it sits there and causes the gums to recede away. This is especially true when the calculus is below the gum line. Not to worry because this can be easily cleaned at a dental visit.
Hope this helps.
My best to you!
