A good question. We just stop giving the anesthetic gases and other sedatives. Reverse the paralysis and let the body metabolize the left over medicine. In 10-15 minutes patient wakes up.
Anesthesia wears off quickly after the anesthetic agent administration is stopped.
During surgery, one requires continued administration of anesthetic, whether it is by breathing gas or intravenous medication. When surgery is completed, the anesthesia is turned off. As the anesthesia in your body leaves it, by breathing it out, or breaking down the intravenous medication, you wake up.

From Christopher Creighton
Once the procedure is ended, gases are discontinued and muscular relaxant reversal are administered. Oxygen is given 100% and you will recover. You will be observed in a unit PACU
before transferring to ward or d/c home for at least 2 hrs.
