“How do you stop a broken tooth from hurting?”
I broke my front tooth and it hurts a lot. How do I stop a broken tooth from hurting? I can't go to the dentist until the end of next week.

If the nerve is exposed, you must see dentist asap if only sensitive to temps. Then ask your pharmacy for dentemp, a temp filling you can use.
When you have a broken tooth and it is hurting, you should be see as an emergency. You don't say if you had an accident. Fall? Car accident?
Your nerve is exposed. The big concern is if any other damage has occurred. As long as your nerve is exposed to the air, that's one source of your pain. You should seek treatment and have your tooth checked out. You may have more damage than you think.

I wish I could give you a magic trick, but depending upon whether it is due to the dentin being exposed or due to crack in tooth changes the way you treat it. If it is just sensitive to temperature and not to bite, you can buy something in the pharmacy to temporarily cover exposed denton. If it hurts when you bite, only the dentist can help you. Sorry.
Try not to chew on that tooth. Also, try not to drink anything cold or breathe in air in case the nerve is exposed. Ideally, see a dentist ASAP.

Unfortunately, when it comes to broken teeth, time is of the essence in treating the tooth, especially if the tooth is at risk of dying. If the nerve is exposed, it can be very painful to touch or temperature. I recommend you see a dentist, even if it's not your usual dentist or an emergency dentist, for treatment as soon as you can. In the meantime, anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen (Advil) can help with the pain of inflammation. Avoid hard or cold foods, and gently clean the area to prevent food debris from accumulating in the area.

Unfortunately there isn't anything that I know of that will definitely stop a toothache other than a root canal or extraction. If you can start some antibiotics it will help and possibly take care of it for awhile. If the antibiotics helps then you need to seek treatment while on antibiotics. If it's infected the pain and infection will come back after completing the antibiotics and usually when it does the pain can be worse and eventually can put you in the hospital.
If it's hurting that bad, you shouldn't wait that long. There is a chance you might need a root canal. Take 600mg of Advil with one extra strength Tylenol every 6 hours.
Usually when a tooth breaks, it is the temperature that bothers the tooth the most. There is dental wax that can be purchased to cover the tooth. It will need to be removed to eat, but attempting to block all the things that might change the temperature of the tooth is the goal. That is also what will happen when you go to the dentist to get the tooth fixed. They cover and protect the broken area with composite.
