“Can a naturopathic weight loss program cause side effects?”
I am planning to undertake a naturopathic weight loss program because I'm just so tired of the lack of results I'm getting from the programs advertised on television. Are there any side effects of such a program that I should be aware off?

Hi, Thank you for your question. We take a natural and customized approach to weight loss with our patients, including lifestyle changes such as exercise, diet, and supplements. Our treatment plans are individualized to the patient's health goals. It's hard to say without knowing what the program is. In my opinion, weight loss programs are traditionally naturopathic by nature as they typically involve a type of dietary change and exercise. Any program that uses drugs, is going to have much more side effects. In general, however, side effects are somewhat expected and common sense such as food/sugar cravings, therefore mood disturbance perhaps, and things like sore muscles from working out. Of course these are no reasons to not do the program. It is also good to be aware that weight may be lost and then you hit a plateau, but this is often times temporary and can be due to a number of things but weight loss typically ensues if you stick with it consistently enough.
Weight loss programs should include a way to balance eating habits and exercise. Hopefully the program you are planning to use includes both.

If there's a concern you should speak to the person in charge of the program.
I don't know what a naturopathic weight loss program is but naturopathic treatments, whether weight loss is a happy bonus or not, are, by principle, not going to produce "side effects" because they are purely focused on enhancing your body's function and removing obstacles to cure.
Hi there,
It all depends on the type of program you are starting. Any weight loss program can have side effects so check with your Naturopathic doctor

It is common to experience side effects with rapid weight loss, regardless of the approach. That is a big shift to homeostasis of the body. Additionally, many environmental toxins are lipophilic (fat binding). When one burns fat, it can release these toxins into the bloodstream, that can cause a myriad of symptoms, including fatigue, malaise, other flu-like symptoms, emotional upheaval, skin irritation, flushing, and more. Another concern can be electrolyte imbalance,
which is risky when it come to heart function. Again, this is for general rapid weight loss. You will be in safer hands doing it under the supervision of a doctor, like an ND.

Hi there, as with anything there can be side effects. To my knowledge there isn't a specific naturopathic weight loss program that my colleagues and I use that is exactly the same. You can find an ND in your area by going to https://naturopathic.org/search/custom.asp?id=5613 and putting in your zip code.
I AM NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN BY A NATUROPATH WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM OTHER THAN EATING ORGANIC FOOD WITH A LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX. THAT IS ALSO LOW IN FAT.
As a rule, most naturopathic remedies have very few side effects, but it can happen. Just make sure you read the ingredients and that you are not allergic or sensitive to those ingredients. Once you start the program, if there are any issues, call your doctor so that you both can find another solution.
Hello!
This is difficult to answer without knowing the specifics of your weight loss program. A benefit of naturopathic medicine is that it is individualized for your needs. Make sure to have your provider discuss any potential side effects with you.

Most naturopathic weight loss programs are tailored to the individuals needs. Without knowing any details about you or the particular regimen you’re doing, I cannot answer this question. However, I encourage you to ask this same question to the naturopathic doctor overseeing your program as s/he can answer that for you.
A naturopathic doctor will get you on a food plan to make lifestyle changes and not necessarily a diet. Eating a diet rich in healthy foods will only have positive benefits
This is not a simple answer. There are so many different approaches to weight loss and every Naturopath uses a different approach. They do tend to tailor the weight loss program to you individually so the risks of side effects are minimized however, they can always occur with any treatment due to the way each person's body responds to different foods, toxins as well as the status of their overall health. Good luck with your weight loss goals!
All programs have side effects if it is applied carelessly. Thus, you need to consult with a naturopathic doctor.
yes absolutely. Pick a sensible weight loss diet. You may find that a ketogenic diet is best for you initially. Check out www.mthfrsupport.com.au and mthfrgenesupport to see our ketogenic diet. I find many patients do really well on this initially. Restricting carbs for a short while is really good for some people. regards carolyn
A lot of times weight loss programs can consist of some detox symptoms. A weight loss program given by a Naturopathic physician is based on the that individual, so side effects can vary if any at all. If you know what type of program you may be recommended, I can guide you further on the possible side effects.
