“How does a person get a blood infection?”

Bacteremia (infection in the blood) is cause by many factors. Bacterial infections cause most cases of sepsis. Sepsis can be a result of other infections, including viral infections such as COVID-19, influenza, or fungal infections. Sepsis is when there is inflammation throughout the body. Bacteria can enter the body through the gastrointestinal tract, through an infected wound, and because of immunosuppression. Our immune system is constantly combating minor infective focus daily. However, when the infection is too high, and the immune system cannot combat them, anti-bacterial and anti-viral medication are used. Thank you.

Many ways. A wound that got infected and not treated quickly or promptly. Getting a bad infection that has spread into the blood stream. Wearing a catheter or other device too long and not taken care of it. It is important at this point to get her treated for the blood infection.
