Dentist Questions Dental Crown

How does a dental crown work?

My dentist told me that I would need a crown for one of my teeth but I barely know what this means. How exactly does a dental crown work?

It seals and protects your tooth from future tooth fractures.
Your dentist will recommend a crown if a large percentage of the tooth has been subject to decay, there’s a large facing filling in the tooth, the tooth needed root canal therapy, or it fractured. Around 2 millimeters of tooth structure is removed and replaced with a strong material.
