How is anesthesia safer for seniors?

My 78 year old mother needs a mole removed under anesthesia. How is anesthesia safer for seniors?

Most people would have a mole removed under local (numbing) anesthesia which is extremely safe.

Senior patients are riskier for anesthesia. That's why we prefer local or regional anesthesia for them. But if we don't have options, general is then administered with a very good setting pre-op.
