The least amount of time the better. Flippers are not really accurate and they don’t really seat on your mouth being supported by teeth . They seat directly on your gums amd the more you bite on it the more pressure they apply on the ridge ( the space were the missing tooth was located) that pressure causes the ridge to reduce in height taking away bone support to the adjacent teeth and when you decide to place an implant or a bridge the prosthetic tooth would end up having a longer crown that the original one.
Flippers are designed for short term use. Prolonged use may cause periodontal disease or decay on adjacent teeth.
A flipper is designed for short term use (months). I do have patients that have used a flipper for years but they are very careful and don't eat with it in place.
