The position of the tooth in the mouth - some teeth receive more stress than others. The material used - there is some slight difference in longevity of materials. Biggest factors can relate to the patient. Home care, maintenance, do you floss and brush properly and receive regular dental maintenance from a professional. Diet - am I consuming acidic drinks or foods on a continual basis through out my day which increases the rate of failure of teeth and restorations.

The life expectancy of a composite filling on back teeth will be affected by its size, biting forces on it, and the oral hygiene of the patient.

The average composite filling lasts 8.9 years. However if you correct the habits that caused the decay in the first place, they can last much longer.
