My son had an allergic reaction to eggs. How long do egg intolerance symptoms last?

Hi,
It sounds like your son has an egg allergy versus a mild intolerance. The difference is that a true allergic reaction is antibody mediated and very specific versus an intolerance where no allergic antibody reaction is involved. Approximately 80% of children will outgrow an egg allergy by 5 years of age. An allergist can test your child periodically and help you determine how quickly he is outgrowing his allergy. There is also a specialized test, called an egg component test, that can help determine if your son can tolerate baked goods with egg before he can tolerate fresh eggs. Birthday parties are so much better if he can tolerate baked goods with egg!
I hope that helps,
