Post-operative pain after a root canal varies from person to person. Many people have no pain but it may last up to a week. There should be some lessening of the pain each day. If intense pain continues after a week even after taking NSAIDs, follow up with the treating doctor.
There can be discomfort for days after but not always. A majority of the time there is slight awareness to none. You need to follow up with the dentist that did the root canal therapy.
Usually, the soreness last for 3 to 4 days and can be controlled by over the counter pain medications. It should not be very painful after the root canal, just soreness.
Ranges from no pain at all to severe pain for several days. Most common is a little soreness that Advil can take care of. Note: if sensitive when you close your teeth together, if you feel like your tooth touches, go back to your dentist/endodontist to adjust the bite. A few seconds to shave it down relieves the pain (90% of the time). Biggest nuisance after treatment, not a problem...just adjust the bite.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Post operative discomfort is normal for about 5-7 days after a root canal procedure. It is typical for the pain to increase for a period of 2-3 days before it starts to get better. If the pain is severe or you experience swelling after the procedure, it is recommended to contact your dentist as you may be experiencing a "flare up." The incidence of a flare up after a root canal is approximately 5-8% and the treatment is often a course of antibiotics.
I usually tell my patients that it's normal for a tooth to be a little tender or sore for 3-5 days after a root canal, and to avoid chewing anything hard on that particular tooth. If you have pain that lasts longer than 2-3 weeks, you should return to the dentist who did your root canal for a check up.
