Believe it or not, gastroenterologists are not even in agreement as to whether gastritis alone causes pain. Most people have some degree of gastritis (as seen during endoscopy), but
have no pain at all. Acute gastritis such as from an infection causes pain, probably, but chronic gastritis is a different thing altogether. Short answer is, nobody knows, and I would not assume that your pain is caused by gastritis. There are other possible causes, especially dyspepsia. ER and primary care docs (and some GIs) like to blame gastritis for all pain, but they don't have the evidence to back up their claims.
