Pathologist Questions H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu)

How long does it usually take to detect H1N1 in a person?

I have given my throat swab for testing H1N1 but the report is taking more than 3 days. How long does it usually take for the report to come in?

There is a rapid test that might produce results in 30 minutes. However, the standard procedure takes 4 – 8 hours Now, H1N1 test can take from 1 to 4 days and as long as seven working days. Thank you.
That surprises me. Most doctor offices have a way to tell you immediately if you have flu or not. They may be testing something more advanced which would require an outside reference lab's help. Check back with the office if you have not heard in a week.
