“How many chiropractor visits do I need for neck pain?”
I want to have chiropractic care for my neck pain, which I had gotten from a car accident recently. How many chiropractor visits would I need to effectively treat my neck pain?

It depends on how old the injury is and how severe it is as well. It’s common to be seen 2-3x per week for a month or two with auto injuries for that pain to start getting better. Ligament sprains in the spine from accidents can take 6-15 months to fully heal.
That is a great question but one I can not honestly answer without doing an exam, doing a history, and seeing X-rays. This is crucial in making that determination. Not knowing whether this is your first accident or trauma to you neck and your age is like asking how long will it take to paint a wall....Also, how long ago was the accident? How fast were you going? How fast was the other car going, Were you hit from behind, front, or broadside? Did the airbags deploy if you had them?
Muscle memory sets in fairly quickly and needs to be rededicated in order to hold alignment. Another thing is whether this is the first trauma to your neck or the fifth? The longer you have had abnormal alignment, the longer it will take.
I have patients that have responded to conservative chiropractic care in as little as 3-8 adjustments but they where very healthy before the accident or came in to the office within a few days of the trauma, I have had othera that took months to respond before they saw any relief, and a few who I refereed out as the did not respond at all.
I hope you find relief and soon.

No chiropractor can tell you how many you would need, some may try but usually a marketing thing. Everyone is different and response differently. Since it was due to an auto accident I definitely recommend chiropractic care to correct the injury to your neck. I have had 5 auto accidents and been getting adjusted for over 40 years and doing great. There is usually some permanent tissue damage to ligaments etc but you will get the best corrective care with chiro than taking a drug to cover up symptoms.
It depends on many factors – the speed of the impact, the direction of impact, the size of your vehicle as compared with the size of the vehicle that hit you, the position of your neck, whether you had seatbelt restraints, whether the airbags deployed, how long before treatment starts from the date of your accident, etc. There is really no way to tell how many visits would be required without a thorough exam, including X-rays (to rule out any possible fracture). If you have any symptoms of concussion or excruciating neck pain, that could indicate possible VBA dissection.

The number of visits needed to help an injury after a car accident can vary greatly, depending on the type and severity of injury, how fast your own body usually heals, how well you follow through with home recommendations like exercise and, finally, on how well you follow through with the visit recommendations from the doctor. I personally have seen patients who needed only a few weeks of treatment (usually two or three times the first week or two), and some where treatment was needed for several months. A good chiropractor will do a thorough examination of your injuries and set you up with several visits to begin treatment. They will also reevaluate your progress every two to three weeks and adjust the visit frequency accordingly.
That would be determined by the physical exam and the extent of the injury. The neck pain could resolve within a visit or two, but because of the amount of force involved in any car accident, it usually takes several months of care in order to get someone back to pre-injury health status. Because we are looking for the cause of the neck pain and addressing that specifically, it is a difficult question to answer with limited information.
