How soon after shoulder surgery should I start physical therapy?

I am an 18 year old female. I will have a shoulder surgery. How soon after shoulder surgery should I start physical therapy?

It depends on the type of surgery. If a shoulder manipulation for adhesive capsulitis then immediate PT is recommended. However if labral repair or rotator cuff repair then often PT is avoided for 6 weeks to allow time for healing. Often simple home pendulum exercises are given.
It depends on the kind of surgery you are having and also individual surgeon’s protocol and practice. As you are young, and if you are having labrum surgery, it may vary from 3-6 weeks from the surgery to start OP PT, depending on the injury and stability of the repair. So please discuss the specifics with your surgeon
