“How soon after surgery will I have mobility in fingers?”
I had surgery for my carpal tunnel. How long before I can type again?

I encourage my patients to move the fingers immediately after surgery and continue exercising within the limits of their pain as much as possible. Typing should be possible in 4-6 weeks. Full strength may not be achieved up to 1 year however.
Mobility of the fingers after carpal tunnel release surgery is usually fairly quick. Most patients regain full digital motion within several days to a week after carpal tunnel release. I would ask your surgeon when you can type again, but you should be able to start within a week after surgery, if not sooner.
