How successful is lower back surgery?

I am a 32 year old male and I need to have lower back surgery. How successful is lower back surgery?

Usually not.
Depends on what for. Good for disc or fusion. Bad for just pain.

Ask your surgeon what the odds are. Here's some things that will improve your chances: Don't smoke. Keep your weight down. Have a positive attitude. Finally, make sure your surgeon is someone who does the majority of his surgeries on just the spine ('spine surgeon").

Back surgery can be highly successful if done for the right indications and by a highly skilled surgeon. Make sure you have exhausted all non-surgical options before choosing to undergo surgery.
For radicular pain, very good success. For back pain, it is transient.
