Family Practitioner Questions Blood Tests

What should I do to bring down my bad cholesterol?

I recently did a blood test that indicated that my bad cholesterol level is much higher than the normal range and my good cholesterol level is very low. What should I do to bring down my bad cholesterol?

If your good cholesterol is low, your immunity will be affected. A combination of vits D and C and E will help. Be more active, eat more fish, stop smoking and drinking alcohol. For high LDL, take a statin recommended by your doctor. Exercise is the key to a good lipid profile.
Diet in low fat, increased fiber, and exercise 150min/week. Consider adding omega 3-6-9 to your diet as well.
Life style modifications: healthy weight, aerobic exercises, reduce intake of cholesterol and saturated fat, increase consumption of dietary fibers, complex carbohydrates, and unsaturated fats.
In case there is high cholesterol and also smoking, high blood pressure, and heart disease, I recommend you talk to your doctor about possibly starting medications to bring your cholesterol down.
