“Is acupuncture better than chiropractic?”
I am a 32 year old male. I have chronic headaches. I want to know if acupuncture is better than chiropractic?

For other medical issues it is hard to tell. But for chronic headache acupuncture is more effective.

Do you like mother or father? Mother is special, Father is special... Try both at a time, evaluate yourself. The healing journey is finding the right treatment for you, not in general.
They are two different treatments. You cannot compare them. In some cases, acupuncture can help more; in some cases, chiropractic.
Acupuncture and chiropractic work on entirely different systems, so one is not better than the other. But I have a lot of success treating headaches. I will sometimes send my patients to a chiropractor if I can't stop the headaches if it's because the spine is out of alignment. Once they have had a few adjustments, I can most of time stop them from coming back.
It is impossible to answer that question. It's like comparing apples and oranges. The answer to that question may also depend on how skilled the doctor is and what is the cause of the headache. Often, a combination of the two is very effective for chronic headaches.

Good afternoon,
Acupuncture and chiropractor are equally good. Chiropractor maybe is more effective for certain conditions as well as acupuncture.

Hi there,
What a great question! And I’m glad I get to answer it. Coming from a background of having also gone to chiropractic school, I can honestly say that acupuncture and chiropractic complement each other extremely well. For headaches, it’s a good idea to find a practitioner of both with whom you connect. They both approach different aspects of holistic health. While
chiropractic aligns bones which hamper optimal body functions, and induce pain, acupuncture improves flow of life force, or qi, and creates a neurotransmitter cascade and balance, lowering inflammation, therefore dissipating pain. As you can see, one is not better than the other. They can work hand in hand for optimal benefit! For more: NewmansAcuPilates.wordpress.com

Acupuncture is very effective for all causes of chronic headaches. If there is a bony structure diagnosis, such as herniated disks, then Chiro would help in conjunction. But generally speaking, Acupuncture can help in any case.

If you have a bone out of alignment pushing on a nerve, I would go to a chiropractor. Headaches can be caused by neck vertebrae being out of alignment, especially in the back of the head (occipital area). If I didn't know and had unlimited resources, I would do both simultaneously. If I only had enough $ for one, I would try acupuncture.
Acupuncture and Chiropractic use different treatment plans with patients. A chiropractor will press on the body part that's hurting to move the joints and sometimes create a physical therapy plan.
When you get acupuncture, the acupuncturist inserts tiny needles into specific points on your skin on various muscles and tissues that connect different parts of your body.
For chronic headaches, We use needle stimulates the nerves to release hormones, such as endorphins, that trigger a response from your body. This immune and circulation system stimulation is what proponents of acupuncture claim relieve migraines and tension headaches.

Chiropractor can adjust and align spine ensuring free nerve openings from spine. Chronic headaches often are caused by other bodily mis-balances. Please, try acupuncture. It is very effective for your condition.
So these are two very different practices. I personally go to a chiropractor to thwart my migraines. That being said I treat many people with chronic headaches and I have seen it be very helpful for them. I think that together acupuncture and chiropractic would do wonders for a body. It really depends on the mechanism of the headache. Do you get them because of a mal alignment? Or because your body is out of balance somehow? Chiropractic will help to keep you aligned. Acupuncture helps to balance your bodies systems.
That decision is up to you! Everyone's body is different which means we will all react differently to treatments. Try them both. You may find one works better than the other or that they actually work best in conjucntion.
For chronic headaches, acupuncture is good. If chiropractic can’t help you, you need see an acupuncturist like me. I have successfully helped many headache patients before.
Acupuncture is synergistic with chiropractic. Many times I recommend people do both depending on the condition. When the back is out of alignment chiropractic medicine moves the bones while acupuncture releases tight muscles and treats the underlying cause of the bones being out of alignment. Acupuncture also helps with collapsing discs, and many other issues.
Yes,it is. Acupuncture is better than chiropractic in many aspects, you can try acupuncture for your chronic headaches.
Claiming acupuncture is "better than" anything can be tough to back up. There are times when acupuncture is your best bet, there are times when some other method is you best bet and there are times when acupuncture plus something like chiropractic is your best bet.
I treat a lot of headache and migraine, and I often get results for people when chiropractic has failed. Is that because acupuncture is better or is that because I'm getting the folks for whom chiropractic wasn't the answer?
Here's what I'd suggest. If these headaches are a "new" phenomenon for you or they've increased in frequency and/or intensity, you should start with your primary care physician and possibly neurological consult. There are some things we need to rule out first.
Assuming you have gone this route and nothing unusual was detected, use the "Find a Practitioner" lookup at NCCAOM.org and get a list of board certified acupuncture providers local to you. Call around to a few and see if you can find someone who works primarily with pain or headache/migraine. Plan to go to at least 3 treatment sessions. By the 3rd or 4th session you should be noticing a change in frequency and/or severity of your headaches. If you aren't it might be time to think about either adding chiropractic to the acupuncture or switching to chiropractic.
