The theory from the Traditional Chinese Perspective is that through acupuncture the movement of chi is redirected to relieve blockages, and balance your wellbeing. From a Western medicine perspective there are various theories from local effects to influencing the overall nervous system, including releasing endorphins. Most people deeply relax with acupuncture, which can reduce a pain response both the physical and the emotional.
I have treated heel pain in my clinic and had good success. There are any different reasons for heel pain and tests may need to be completed by your physician to identify the problem so the acupuncturist can apply the treatment according to the injury or disfunction.

To treat the heel, we need to see the whole picture. 70%-80% of the heel pain is from the low back, hip, and leg alignment. When you walk on the heel, if you have pain, it indicates usually the issue on the L5 spine. Therefore, an experienced acupuncturist will exam the low back, hip, and whole low extremities to treat the heel pain.

Acupuncture works well for most pain, wherever it is located. But if you stand on your feet 10 hours a day, on concrete floors, in crappy shoes, I'm not sure anything would help other than changing the insults to your feet.
Well, that depends upon a multitude of factors. What is the cause of your heel pain.....injury, overuse, poor footwear, occupational hazard? If you haven't had an x-ray or MRI, if this is a chronic issue, I would suggest that you do. If you have a job where you are always on your feet, you may need to rethink your occupation. If it is a weight issue, losing weight may alleviate the pain. Have you had physical therapy for this? Do you do calf stretches? During the warm weather, many of us wear flip flops or go barefoot which looks great fashion-wise but horrible support for the feet. Have you tried changing your shoes during the day or just not wearing the same shoes every day? That may help. You also may want to try arch supports. I find that the Dr. Scholl's or dollar store ones can sometimes do the trick. Do you have flat feet? Fallen arches? Seeing a podiatrist may shed some light on the correct footwear for your condition. During the COVID-19, you may not want to see a doctor, so in the meantime, I would suggest doing calf stretches against the wall by just leaning lightly. If your calf and archilles are tight, you may not be able to stretch very much. That's okay, because your muscles will eventually loosen up and stretch gradually. It's important not to force it. Also, getting on the floor and reaching for your toes slowly will help the heel if it is a simple muscle/tendon problem. Of course, you should see a doc, maybe a telehealth visit, to determine if it isn't anything more serious. But try the stretches (gently) and see if it helps. All that being said, yes, acupuncture can help with improving blood flow and clear blockages or move "stagnation" that may be the cause of the pain. And getting a foot massage and doing regular foot baths, preferably in epsom salts certainly wouldn't hurt. Good luck and feel better!!

Yes. Acupuncture treatment is very good for heel pain. The most important treatment would be to reduce the tightness of your groin area. It takes a few treatments.
Acupuncture is an effective and safe treatment for heel pain. Heel pain is a common foot condition often characterized by intense pain, especially when placing weight onto the foot. Pain on the back of the heel often indicates achilles tendinitis and pain on the underside of the heel often indicates plantar fasciitis. One of the most common causes of heel pain, plantar fasciitis involves pain and inflammation of the band of tissue running across the bottom of the foot. The new research indicates that acupuncture is effective for plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinitis and many other forms of heel pain.
Heel pain is a common disease and acupuncture is an effective and safe treatment for heel pain. I have lots of experience with this situation and treat about 100 patients per year that come in because of heel pain. When treating heel pain, it depends on the patient’s situation (heels). Usually, treatment may be anywhere between 2 – 10 visits for the pain to be reduced or go away. I use acupuncture with cupping or moxibustion. Of the 100 patients that I see per year for heel pain, approximately 80% get complete relief but 100 % of my patients see a reduction in their heel pain.
Acupuncture is good for pain management in general, so it could be helpful. But, it depends on what is causing the pain.
Hello & thank you for your question! Yes, acupuncture is beneficial for heel pain! By needling in and around an area of pain, we are forcing the body to send blood, lymph, fluids, energy to that area to alleviate pain and inflammation. Acupuncture also releases endorphins, which are your body's natural pain-killers, to also help alleviate pain. The best part is that acupuncture also stabilizes the surrounding area to help prevent a future re-injury. Hope this helps!
