“Is acupuncture safe?”
I'm 37 years old, and I've been dealing with pain along the left side of my body. Is acupuncture safe to treat this?

Yes. Acupuncture is very safe if you have a fully trained practitioner who has a master's degree level of training in it.
Yes, Acupuncture is very safe and we can work to find what is causing this pain on your left side.

Pain is #1 reason for acupuncture in the States and the western countries. Acupuncture needles signal our brains to release natural pain killers such as endophrine and opiate to inhibit the pain signals without interfering the functions of the body. In the other term, acupuncture does not produce any side effects for pain management.

Absolutely. Acupuncture is effective for any type of discomfort or pain in the body, unless there is a structural component that requires surgery.
Have you seen your PCP about this issue to rule out nerve damage? Is the pain accompanied by numbness or weakness? Once you are checked out by a physician and anything medically serious has been ruled out, then yes, acupuncture is very safe. Make sure you convey your concerns to your acupuncturist first to see if he or she will offer you a plan of treatment that you are comfortable with. I usually start with minimal needles (too many can be too much for a new patient to handle and may exacerbate the pain) but the amount of needles isn't so much important as the needling technique and the other methods employed with needles (cupping, moxa, gua sha, magnets, etc). A practitioner that is sensitive to your needs and concerns will take the time to check in with you frequently to see how you are handling the affect of the treatment while they are needling. I have worked with patients that are so nervous about needles that I just did pressure point work on the acupoint. Needles do not necessarily need to be used to cause an effect. Good luck!!!
Acupuncture can be very effective in pain management and is known to be safe when done by a fully trained health care professional. Your licensed health care practitioner needs to do a thorough history, to help identify the cause of the pain and to rule out conditions which would require other medical interactions.
The short answer, acupuncture is great for treating all sorts of pain. And if you seek out a Licensed Acupuncturist, it is also safe. It would be worth a session to find out.
Yes, it is safe to treat this. However, it is always good to find out more as to what causes the pain in the first place.
When performed by competently trained, licensed professional, acupuncture is extremely safe. All licensed acupuncturists today use individually packaged, sterile, disposable needles, so there is virtually no chance of infection or contagion.
Acupuncture in general is safe. I would have to examine you and get more of your background information as to why you've had pain on your left side of your entire life and then I can assess it better from there.

Yes. Acupuncture works to re-establish the connection between mind and body. By creating a "micro trauma" of a needle penetrating the skin, it triggers the brain to release endorphins, hormones and other healing properties to promote pain relief, decrease inflammation and increase blood flow and circulation to the area of discomfort. There are also non-needling modalities such as cupping or gua sha that can be incorporated into treatments to further promote blood flow and increase circulation to the areas of pain or soreness.
Acupuncture is the safest treatment available in medicine; there is no pain, no negative side effects. It increases metabolism and energy and immune system. I have been practicing for 25 years and treated children and elderly and pregnant patients with excellent results.
Generally speaking, acupuncture is pretty safe. The following are the comments from NIH:
"Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by an experienced practitioner using sterile needles. Improperly performed acupuncture can cause potentially serious side effects."

Acupuncture is FDA approved and is safe for most all conditions. That said, you would really need to be checked out by the acupuncturist to go over your issues before proceeding as each person is different.
One sided pain is actually more common than people think and it is absolutely beneficial to use acupuncture as a safe way to treat this, regardless of age.
Hi,
Most definitely safe, if you are treated by well-trained professionals.

Acupuncture has a long history in the successful treatment of pain syndromes. There are no prohibitions in treating pain along the left side of the body. If you are concerned about having a needle placed into an area of pain, there are other options such as using distal points, ear acupuncture, hand acupuncture, etc.
Yes absolutely. When practiced by a fully licensed and insured Acupuncturist, the risks of acupuncture are minimal, if any at all, in treating any condition.
Absolutely. If you have a Western diagnosis, we can definitely use that to assist our treatments as well.
Acupuncture is non-addictive and has minimal to no side effects. Any dangers with acupuncture are minimized when administered by a trained, licensed professional. It is extremely safe and incredibly effective for treating pain, managing pain and relieving pain.
If you are interested in getting treatment, find a licensed practitioner in your area (Licensed Acupuncturist L.Ac.). It can greatly improve your condition with no medications, no addictions and little to no side effects.

Absolutely. So long as you see a certified or licensed professional, acupuncture is a safe and effective way to treat all types of pain. Be sure to do your research, though. There are bad acupuncturists out there just like there are bad doctors. Use someone you trust and are comfortable with.
