“Is my aunt too young for a pacemaker?”
My aunt is only in her late 60s, but she's been consistently dealing with A-Fib for about a year. Her doctors think that it's time for her to get a pacemaker, but I thought this was only a solution for those over like 75. Isn't she too young to have a pacemaker?

Anyone of any age can get a pacemaker. In her case, it is not because of heart block, the usual age reason; it is to stop the episodes of a fib.

Pacemakers are placed for medical indications and based on ACC guidelines. They may be required at any age based on medical conditions that exist and clinical judgement. Though you are partially correct that they are normally done in older age groups, but as I said, need indicates their usefulness.

There is no age criteria for pacemaker. There are children with pacemakers . If it’s indicated then it’s needed. Now if you want a second opinion regarding the need for a pacemaker in your loved one that’s a different story. Make sure your family member is comfortable with this option and that other options have been explored
