Is foot surgery dangerous?

I am a 46 year old female and I will have surgery on my ankle. Is foot surgery dangerous?

All surgeries carry risks.
No real danger performed by an experienced and trained surgeon. There are risks with every surgery but most risks are minor and can be easily managed. Catastrophic risks are extremely rare.
It is no more or less dangerous than any other surgery. As always, complications are possible, but don't occur very often.

Hope it helps!

Ankle and foot surgery is different. All surgeries have risks and benefits. Talk to your surgeon and your family doc about the risks. Some patient and surgery combinations are very risky, like an ankle replacement and a diabetic patient, or an ankle fusion and a smoker.
No not usually. If you’re a diabetic the risks of infection and not healing are higher. If you have good vascularity you should be fine.
Ankle and foot surgeries are usually less dangerous than hip or knee surgery. However, some procedures such as ankle fusion or foot reconstruction could be complicated with potential complications. Please stop smoking before and after the procedure.
