I am a 27 year old male who has had insomnia since I was in high school. What can be done about it? Is insomnia treatable?

Yes with medication
There are medications to help you sleep. I recommend to see a psychiatrist or neurologist to look for the cause and to treat the cause, not consequences.
Good luck!
Start with healthy sleep hygiene. If it does not work, you can start medications.
Insomnia is extremely treatable. The basic technique is called cognitive behavioral therapy. It is important to be sure that there is not associated anxiety or depressive illness. At age 27 I would really try to avoid taking medication. There are a number of online resources available to patients to try without prescription. If you google search CBT for insomnia you will find several of these. Please be aware that they are not completely free but represent a good value to patients. There are many free sites listing basic sleep hygiene as well.
