“Is Invisalign safe for children?”
My son is 11 years old and he doesn't want braces. Is Invisalign safe for children?

A better question is his mouth safe for braces? Until a patient of any age gets any type of appliance they must demonstrate the ability to keep the appliance and mouth clean and the discipline to carry out instructions, otherwise, disappointing results will follow. Clear tray aligners (there are a number of brand names) can be an option, but realize that removing trays for eating or drinking anything but water and getting them back in the mouth immediately is a challenge and removable appliances have a strange way of getting lost or thrown out. All things must be handled safely.
Invisalign is a tool for the orthodontist to move teeth. If you are examined by an orthodontic specialist, they will determine the most efficient and effective methods for moving teeth into occlusion.
The general answer would be a qualified yes. Understand that at that age your son may not have all of his permanent teeth so clear aligner therapy might be a bit more complicated. It also depends on the specifics of his particular problem. Clear aligners have their plusses and minuses depending upon the tooth movement that need to be done. You orthodontist should be able to guide you.
Most children are not responsible enough for the discipline to wear Invisalign aligners as needed.

Yes, Invisalign is absolutely safe for children. Besides Invisalign being more cosmetic than braces, there is the added benefit of brushing normal and eating normal with no food restrictions since it is removable. However because it is removable, it requires more responsibility. They need to make sure they wear it 20-22 hrs/day and they can lose it. We talk to our patients about having a routine. As long as your son has a good routine, he will be just fine.
