“Is it normal for periods to be irregular after a miscarriage?”
I am a 27 year old female. My periods are irregular after my miscarriage. Is it normal for periods to be irregular after a miscarriage?

This can be normal for a few months. If it has been longer you should see an OB/GYN provider to determine the cause.
Hello,
You did not say how long your periods have been irregular. Typically, the first few months 3-4 months after a miscarriage, bleeding can be irregular and regular ovulation usually takes a few months to start. Once you have a normal period or two, you should go back to being regular assuming you were regular before you got pregnant. If you were irregular before you got pregnant, then, you would most likely be irregular now.
I hope that this helps.

Not necessarily..the first one yes but thereafter irregular cycles could be a sign of hormonal disorders or structural abnormalities that should definitely be evaluated with labs and an ultrasound.
That is a very interesting question. =20
The short answer is that following an event such as a miscarriage, menstrual cycles should AT SOME POINT return to their usual pattern. Having said that, there are a few things you should be aware of:
1. Menstrual cyclicity can be affected short term (usually less that 3 months) by pregnancy or pregnancy related hormonal changes.
2. Autoimmune thyroid disease can be "triggered" so to speak from a pregnancy event and cause irregular cycles.
3. A hormone called Prolactin can be abnormally elevated during pregnancy and take longer to return to normal, thus causing irregular cycles.
4. Following a miscarriage, the uterine lining can on occasion become inflamed and cause scar tissue that will prevent periods.
With the above in mind, my recommendation is that after waiting for a few weeks following a miscarriage you may want to be evaluated for the above.
I hope this answers your question.
