Is it okay to take Ibuprofen/Tylenol while using neomycin and polymyxin b sulfates and hydrocortisone otic solution?

I currently have an ear infection that I am working through and I am wondering if it is okay that I am using Ibuprofen and Tylenol to help relieve the pain for sleep.

If you can tell me anything else about what I should do please let me know, also I know its rare to get Mastoiditis, but how would I know I have it if I'm taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen, is it just behind the ear redness, the mastoid, etc etc, is it really necessary to be taking Tylenol?

Neomycin, polymyxin B sulfates, and hydrocortisone otic solution is an ear drop medication used to treat ear infections. Taking Ibuprofen (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) or Tylenol (acetaminophen) is generally considered safe when using ear drops, as these medications are typically taken orally and don't directly interact with the ear drops.

However, to ensure safety and avoid potential interactions or side effects, it is crucial to consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist. They can provide guidance based on your specific medical history and the details of your current medications.
Thanks for the question.

You don't want to use both ibuprofen and Tylenol because they basically do very similar things. As to which one of the two, I would recommend TYLENOL because its safer pharmacologically. With regards to interaction, there would be little to no interaction between the two. So, you will be fine on both.
Thank you and be safe.
Yes that is perfectly fine. I would suggest alternating then every 3 hours so that you are receiving some type of analgesic every three hours to help with the pain. For example you could take an extra strength Tylenol (500mg) or two regular strength (2x325mg) and then three hours later take 2-3 Advil (ibuprofen). This therapy could be used for the duration of the ear infection.
This would be a good time to follow up with your doctor and let him/her know that you're having trouble sleeping due to the pain. I'm not sure why you would want to take Tylenol and Ibuprofen unless your doctor approves. If I had to choose one I would go with Tylenol since its best for the head in general. But again, this is a good time to consult with you doctor; take
their recommendation over mine since they know your full medical profile and I do not.
It is important to take ibuprofen since it is for pain and anti-inflammatory as well so it will help with the redness and pain behind the ear. However, it's not recommended if you have high blood pressure or kidney problems. If yes, you need to switch to Tylenol. Neomycin, polymyxin B, and hydrocortisone are very good ear drops in that case. There's no drug interaction with ibuprofen or Tylenol. But if you have an internal ear infection, you have to take a systemic antibiotic. Tablets or capsules such as Amoxicillin.
Hello,

Yes, that’s perfectly fine. I would recommend ibuprofen because it will help with the inflammation in your ear.
Hello,

I suggest you try taking Ibuprofen only since it is both analgesic and anti-inflammatory. If it doesn’t work, then you could add Tylenol. Applying an ice bag to the painful area could be help, too.

Hope you get well soon,

Taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen will help with the pain and inflammation. You could also use a warm compress on your ear which sometimes helps with the pain also. Mastoiditis is rare and usually occurs when an ear infection has gone untreated. Redness behind the ear, swelling behind the ear, headache and hearing loss are all symptoms of Mastoiditis. Make sure and stay hydrated also.
I'm assuming the neomycin/polymyxin B/hydrocortisone is for the possible mastoiditis that you may have. The only way to find out if you have mastoiditis is to go to your doctor for further evaluation. For pain relief, it's usually either Ibuprofen or Tylenol, not both. So to answer your question, the Tylenol is not necessary
It is fine to use these medications in combination. They are two separate dosage forms, they will not mix.
Hi ,

Thanks for your question, and my answer is yes, it is okay to take ibuprofen or tylenol while using your ear drops. My advice is to alternate between both as to avoid overdosing on tylenol
and in the meantime you should take ibuprofen with food to avoid any stomachache.
Hope you get well soon.
