“Is local anesthesia safer than general?”
I am a 19 year old male. I want to know if local anesthesia is safer than general?

Depends on the procedure. Both local anesthesia and general anesthesia are very safe. I always remind patients that the most dangerous thing they will do is drive to and from the hospital on the day of surgery.
Good luck!
Good luck!
The benefits of local versus general anesthesia depend on the type of surgery. If the surgery is minimized to superficial soft tissue, local may be indicated, but if more extensive surgery such as intra-abdominal, intrathoracic, intracranial or spine surgery is planned, general anesthesia is preferred. Some surgery can also be performed under nerve block +/- IV sedation.
