Is nymphomania a real issue?

This is not actually about myself and I don't even know what is nymphomania until my best friend told me that her friend has this disease. I researched it on Google and I really don't understand it. Is this a serious disease?

My best friend just said, "when we go to school she's out of her mind and when we go to CR she cries" and "she told me that she can't take it anymore" she wants to change and doesn't want this kind of illness. I said maybe try consulting a doctor. One thing I know for sure is she doesn't go to any treatment. What should we do?

Friend of Friend w Compulsion, There are elaborate and sophisticated treatments for what might be referred to as sexual addictions. There are Groups for those who suffer from alcohol, narcotic, gambling, spending Debtors Anonymous and compulsive sexual behaviors. I went to graduate school with a friend, who is a brilliant individual, who specializes in treatments for compulsive sexual behavioral disorders, individuals impulsively compelled to engage in sexual interactions and habits who feel as if they have no control over what they do sexually. His name is Dr. Gary Dec pronounced Deece. Dr. Dec is a nationally recognized expert. He was trained in the United Kingdom in one of the most prestigious international training programs in the world. He has specialized in the treatment of compulsive sexual disorders for more than 40 years. I have not talked to Gary since about 2021, but, he knows me only too well. Please drop my name, if you wish. If he is significantly restricting the number of patients he treats or consults with, my name drop might make him at least take a second look if you or your friend were referred to him by Dr. Tom Blash. He may be retired, but would likely be able to refer your friend to an expert of his caliber in the geographic region where you your friend lives. He used to live in a suburb of Chicago. Last I was aware, he was semiretired. But, he may be accepting a few new patients. If his email remains active, and your friend would like to communicate with Dr. Dec, the last email address I have is Gary.Dec.garydecpsyd.com. If you contact Dr. Dec, please tell him I said hi to his Loved Ones and Him. Dr. Thomas Blash, Psy.D. PA License PS003255L Dr.tomwillchrisoutlook.com
Nymphomaniac It used to be known as sex addict in the early days Compulsive sexual behavior is not listed in the DSM5TR as a diagnosis, but sometimes its diagnosed as part of another mental health condition, such as an impulse control disorder or a behavioral addiction. People with compulsive sexual behavior often have alcohol or drug use problems or other mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression, which need treatment. Best treatment is psychotherapy talk therapy like CBT, group therapy and medications to treat anxiety, depression or other mental health related issues
Thanks for caring about your friend. Nymphomania is basically when someone is hypersexual. It's usually part of an underlying condition, so I would encourage your friend to see a therapist or counselor or even their primary doctor to discuss this. That way they can get an accurate assessment and also make sure they take precautions with the behaviors that can be risky. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Sex drives very greatly and social norms dictate what is acceptable sexual behavior. Certainly sometimes people substitute sex for healthier relationships. Hormone level should be checked, including testosterone. Birth-control pills may be a good idea both to curb libido and to protect from pregnancy SSRI medicine can help compulsive behaviors and obsessive thoughts.
