I understand cause I dealt with PTSD from being part of military life. It is per individual and a testing of your own experience. Many do not think regular type of counseling works. But you need to deal with the trauma then move forward to maybe preventive or alternative medicine. Medication can help along with alternative practices like EFT. Some have done well on cannabis, talk therapy, and daily meditation.
Thank you for your question. PTSD can be resolved through different therapeutic approaches, including Somatic Experiencing (SE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Within CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) are recommended. Medications have also been found to be helpful in relieving symptoms of PTSD, particularly antidepressants with the strongest evidence supporting Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs).
Some of the most common symptoms of trauma targeted by psychotherapy and pharmacological interventions include: reliving the traumatic experience through flashbacks, avoidance of people and places that trigger the trauma, intrusive memories or nightmares, insomnia, anxiety, numbness, loss of interest, and depression. I hope this information has been helpful!
Yes, psychiatrists will provide medicines to treat the symptoms that can debilitate functioning and treat underline disorders. Hope it helps.
Yes, a psychiatrist may be able to help with PTSD if they have training in it. One possibility is to contact MAPS (Multiputpose Association for Psychedelic Studies) and see if you qualify for one of their research studies. The best medicine for PTSD is MDMA but it is not yet legal., and should only be taken with people trained in its use. The other medication that sometimes whips is Ketamine.

Two things:
1. Medication to quiet the symptoms
2. Therapy to identify & resolve the locked-up feelings that contribute to the problem
Hello and thank you for your question. Psychiatrists typically treat mental health conditions with medication to help alleviate distressing symptoms. Thank you.
