Dentist Questions Ridge augmentation

Is ridge augmentation possible at my age?

I'm 65 years old, and I'm experiencing bone loss in my lower jaw, according to my doctor. Do you think a ridge augmentation is possible at my age?

You need to consult your dentist
I have patients that successfully undergoing ridge augmentation at age 87, she is now 92 and heals extremely well. The most important thing is to follow all doctors recommendations ( postoperative). Smoking is detrimental for grafting.
More than age, the success of ridge augmentation is related to general health. If healthy, then there should be no problem
Yes! Ridge Augmentation is possible at any age!

Yes. Chronological age alone is not a good indicator of bone augmentation success. If you are a healthy individual, bone augmentation is still possible successfully.
Yes, as long as you are fairly healthy. Ridge augmentation is done to help support a denture or implants and a fixed prosthesis.
There are many factors to lead to a successful surgery. Especially in a part of the body we have to chew on daily! But it can work, yes.

It is safe, provided your health is in good shape.

Thank you,

Age is not necessarily a defining factor in ridge augmentation. It depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you have osteoporosis that is affecting your jaw, there are other treatments. If you are considering placing implants and there is not enough bone to imbed implant into, you may need augmentation to create enough bone to stabilize the implant(s). This would all be determined by an oral surgeon and with 3D X-ray scans. Augmentation can be done in several ways, including taking bone from hip or utilizing part of the fibula. You may want to get several opinions. Age, overall health, and medications are all factors to consider.
