A kidney stone protocol should be used to detect stones. Typically done without contrast and completed in a minute which should include your abdomen and pelvis .
A CT scan for kidney stones typically takes a few minutes, and you do not have to be fully in the tube. To learn more, connect with me at drjeromepuryear.com. Thank you!
Almost certainly a Ct and yes, you'll go into the ring (not tube) and it will overall take seconds.....no worries
The scan is only a few seconds but a minute or two to line up. Your head will be out of the tube the whole time.
It depends on what information you are seeking, and what is discovered in the study. if kidney function is to be evaluated, the contrast will be administered, lengthening the exam time. If only assessing for the presence of stones, the study time is negligent. If some unexpected non-renal pathology is discovered, the Dr. and technician may extend the time of the exam. (i.e. administration of contrast).
