Usually not! See your dentist to evaluate the size of the chip and the options to fix it.
There are many options for a chipped tooth that do not include extraction.
Chipped teeth are usually a result of incidental trauma, but also can be related to chronic stress from microscopic fractures and grinding of the teeth over time, leading to a weakness of the enamel jacket that surrounds and protects the nerve of the tooth itself. Once your doctor X-rays the affected tooth, then and only then will he be able to recommend the best method of restoration and even possibly what the cause of the fracture was incorrect that so that it does not happen again.
That all depends on the size and angle of the chip. You will have to let a trained dentist actually see the break first hand to determine the best course of care.
