Orthodontist Questions Braces, Oral

numbness in lip

I wear braces and busted my upper inner lip. There were two cuts inside my upper lip but they aren't that visible anymore. I am worried because it has become numb and I can feel a weird lump thing. Will the numbness go away over time or will my lip feel weird for the rest of my life?

The numbness will go away but I would still have your orthodontist / dentist evaluate your "weird lump thing." It could be a temporary inflammatory response or maybe blocked salivary duct? Just get a proper evaluation.
I cannot give you any specific medical advice without seeing what is going on in your mouth. But as general information that maybe helpful after a cut in the mouth or the skin sometimes the area could scar or callus which may feel like a thickness over the skin or mucosa. Pain or numbness associated with such injury usually heals as the skin, nerves and tissues heal.
Hi!
Thank you for your question. I am so sorry for the accident. Ideally, your orthodontist and PCP should look at your lips to make sure nothing serious happened, especially if you are feeling a lump around the affected area. If the accident was minor, I am not expecting you to have the numbness for the rest of your life. Traumas in the oral cavity including lips can clear up within 1 to 3 weeks. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays.
Continued numbness would not generally be normal for a busted lip. You should contact your dentist, explain your concerns, and be evaluated as soon as possible.
Hi

You should go and see your orthodontist.
Numbness wouldn't be a permanent thing based on what you are saying but it
may just need to be seen to evaluate properly.
Dont worry its not serious but dont ignore.

good luck.
We are sorry to hear that you experience some discomfort while wearing braces. It's hard to identify the problem without seeing it, the best way is to let your orthodontist take a look. In the majority of cases, cheeks and lips need about 2 weeks to get used to braces, and after that time most concerns and complaints subside. Some irritation and discomfort could be expected within this adjustment period. Orthodontic wax/ OrthoDots Clear put on braces usually helps to minimize this sort of discomfort.
You should see your orthodontist to evaluate the type and extent of trauma to your lip and teeth. Only then can one give you sound advice if the healing process is normal.
If the "weird lump thing" doesn't resolve in 2 more weeks, it could be improper healing and developing scar tissue from trauma which can be reduced by an oral or plastic surgeon It could also be relater to the numbness.which should resolve soon, if not go to the specialists.
