OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Menstrual Cramps

Why do my periods last for such a long time?

Every month I get my period, it lasts for 7-8 days and is extremely heavy the entire time. Could there be something wrong with me? Is this normal?

You need to get your hormonal panel checked by your ob/gyn and also need a pelvic sonogram. There are lots of reasons for heavy periods, but unless you get an evaluation, you will not figure out the reason.
If your periods are otherwise normal--predictable, no bleeding in between--this can be normal. However, there is a lot that can be done for heavy bleeding, some with minimal side effects. In addition to hormone therapy or an IUD, there are non-hormonal medications that can help.
