“Is it safe to undergo physical therapy during pregnancy?”
I have a severe back problem and I just started to have physical therapy for it. But now I recently found out that I am 7 weeks pregnant. Should I continue with my physical therapy?

Yea absolutely. As a matter of fact it is required to do so. Often times the joints such as hands, elbows feet get swollen and lower backs becomes painful, stiff, etc - the PT plays important role during pregnancy.
Yes, physical therapy can be very beneficial during pregnancy.
It can help alleviate common discomforts like back pain, hip pain, and pelvic girdle pain. A physical therapist can also provide guidance on safe exercises and stretches to maintain your strength and flexibility

Hello, Thank you so much for your question. Yes Physical therapy is definitely safe during pregnancy. Of course it's important for the therapist to have complete knowledge of your medical history so appropriate precautions can be taken as needed for any specific modalities/interventions that are being used. But in general it's safe to do physical therapy. Thanks.
Absolutely safe to participate in PT during pregnancy. In fact, the tools you'll learn from a PT will help reduce your discomfort and improve your mobility and function, along with helpful tips for after the baby comes! I highly recommend getting into PT to make your life more comfortable as the pregnancy progresses!
This question depends. There’s nothing wrong with exercising during pregnancy. But if you have any kind of complications or medical issues that could prevent you from exercising please speak to your physician
It's better not to have any physical therapy in the 1st trimester during pregnancy. You can use only gentle moist heat and some gentle message. Starting with 2nd trimester, you can start swimming, it's the best exercise for pregnant women.
You can continue gentle heat/cold and some isometric exercises for your back, but no machine or electrotherapy during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. Swimming also is highly recommended after the first trimester to ease your pain.
Yes. You are totally fine to continue with physical therapy. Positioning may be different but pregnancy isn’t a contraindication.
Yes, the sooner you start physical therapy, the better. Don't hesitate. Reach out for a referral to a physical therapist with a history of gestational care.
