“What is the reason for hair loss around the crown region?”
I am a 48 year old woman and I am suddenly losing a lot of hair around my crown region. Could it be due to stress or is it some other reason?

Hair loss can be easy or hard. Sudden loss can be due to stress, an acute illness, anesthesia, or any other trauma. Vitamin deficiency and anemia can contribute as well. A more diffuse loss can also be seen with certain medications. Chemotherapy is a different type of loss known as telegen affluvium and very rapid. Female pattern hair loss can begin at the crown as well but is more gradual. Your dermatologist can help distinguish what type of loss you have.
