Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Cough

I just found red traces which seem like blood when coughing this morning. Is it serious?

I am just recovering from a terrible bout of a sinus infection. However, this morning when i woke up, i had continuous coughing which eventually resulted in blood traces in the phlegm. Is this a sign of concern? Could it be normal or is it something serious?

It's likely that the capillaries in your nose and nasopharynx (back of nose) are inflamed from the infection and you ruptured one (or more) with coughing. It's also possible that one ruptured in your throat or even further down. If this persists, see your doctor for an examination and work-up to rule out more nefarious causes such as cancer.
Just wait a couple of days and if it continues you should see your Dr. gor a check up. Blood can come from the sinuses, the nose the throat or the upper respiratory area. If you are taking aspirin or ibuprofen it could be from the effect they have on coagulation so to be safe don’t take anything but tylenol.
When there is blood in your phlegm, it can be a sign of a serious problem, so I always recommend being evaluated by an otolaryngologist. Many times, it can be from dry, irritated mucosa, especially after a recent infection. However, it is always best to be evaluated to ensure there is not a more serious health concern, especially if there is a history of tobacco use.
In probability, not. Depends on your age, smoking history, airway exposure, toxic exposures, diabetes, etc. If continues best to see ENT for endoscopy and maybe sinus CT scan
It is most likely an infection. But if you are a smoker or over 50 and the blood persists, see a physician.

If you are a smoker, then it could be a serious indication for a chest X-ray and other diagnostic tests, and you may need to see a otolaryngologist for endoscopy.
