“I would like to get a second opinion for my prostate operation. Please help.”
I am due to undergo a prostate operation next month. However, I am worried if this operation will cause further health complications. Need a second opinion on how unavoidable this is.

I am a nephrologist and not a urologist. I am unable to give you a proper perspective on whether you should have a prostate operation or not. I would recommend discussing with a urologist who knows your unique medical information, who can help you make an informed decision regarding proceeding with the operation or not. Thank you.
All depends on what kind of surgery. If it is for enlarged prodttr (BPH), usually, the urologist will do a procedure called "TURP," in which pieces of your enlarged oristate will be cut and removed to ease the urine flow. If the surgery is for prostrate cancer, then a radical prostatectomy will be performed (that is entire prostrate with surrounding tissues). Usually, TURP will not have any adverse effects. To get a second opinion regarding your surgery, a urologist will be of more help to you than a nephrologist like me.
