Pulmonologist Questions Cough

I have a persistent cough at night which causes severe breathing issues while sleeping. What should I do?

For the last 2 days I am having persistent dry cough at nights which eventually leads to breathing distress. This settles in the morning, however due to lack of sleep I wake up with a headache in the morning.

There are many reasons to have a cough at night. Post nasal drip from above and reflux from the stomach up into the esophagus are common causes of nocturnal cough. Asthma is also often worse at night. Diagnosis and treatment of these causes is important to prevent long term damage to the lungs.
