Anesthesia is usually safe if administered by someone with proper training background and skill set. For your 4-year-old son, you want to make sure that the anesthesiologist is well versed with pediatric patients. If your son is having an appendectomy for appendicitis, the benefit of the operation far outweighs the risk of anesthesia.
Any surgical procedure may be risky which is why selecting a team that is dedicated to the care of children is important. In general, a previously healthy child with acute appendicitis will recover back to full activity and health after the general anesthesia used during an appendectomy. Make sure you ask your anesthesia team all of your questions and they will be the best resource for the specifics of the risks of anesthesia.
Anesthesia is very safe now-a-day’s, and the risks are very minimal. He may have a mild sore throat however this will clear up in 24 to48 hours and he should be back to normal.
