Optometrist Questions Squint

Is a squint surgery safe for a 12 year old?

My daughter is 12 years old and has been squinting since she was born. I recently read about a squint correction surgery. I would like to know if this surgery is safe on a 12 year old child. What are the risks involved in the surgery?

I do not recommend. She is too young for vision corrective surgery. I advise eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct her vision and prevent her squint.
Hi,

Squint or strabismus surgery is one of the safest eye surgeries. Sometimes we perform this surgery on kids less than one year old. Therefore, do not be afraid and, if it's indicated, go ahead and accept it.

I would need to know why she is squinting. Does she need glasses? Sometimes blepharospasm can be treated with botox.
Yes
Your daughter should have a comprehensive eye exam from an eyecare professional to determine if she may need a glasses or contact lens prescription, since her squinting may be due to her visual system being unable to focus light correctly, so she is seeing blurry images.
Squinting may cause fatigue, other than that, it will not hurt her eyes. You should definitely think about getting her a pair of glasses. Surgery is difficult to determine without more information.
