I have read in a recent report that steroid medicines can be extremely useful in treating rheumatic pain. Is this true?

Yes, most commonly use prednisone
There is a role for prednisone and similar medications but disease specific treatments are better long term strategies
Steroids have been used over 100 years, but it took 10-15 years before all of the serious side effects were found.
