Cardiologist Questions Xarelto

Xarelto

Is something new in the xarelto blood thinner pills? The frequency of large hematoma is really concerning both hubby and I who take the 20 mg and it seems the bruising is grossly different in years past to the point we wear arms are covered. I know skin gets thinner but this change and increased bruising is alarming.

No new additive as far as I know. Generally speaking, Eliquis causes less bleeding overall than Xarelto does, I almost never prescribe Xarelto unless it is dictated by the insurance company.
Very good question, it’s risky, the question is why are you both on it. The issue is there is no true monitor as a good blood leveling. It’s influenced by several issues, so there is a bleeding risk, the use is truly patient specific, not my favorite blood thinner, be careful.
This may be a sign that your metabolism of Xarelto is changing, possibly due to your kidney function changing or possibly due to another medication. You should discuss this with your doctor immediately.
Make sure that your renal functions are normal. Assess anti platelets indications.....
I don't know which other blood thinner are you comparing Xarelto with. The dosing depends on your kidney function. 20 mg is the dose given to patients with normal kidney function. If your kidney function is not normal and you are on the 20 mg dose, that may increase risk of bleeding. The formulation has not changed recently.
