Anesthesiologist Questions General Anesthesia

What are the odds of not waking up from anesthesia?

My daughter is getting general anesthesia for her tonsillectomy, but I'm a little nervous of the anesthesia in general. How common is it to not wake up from anesthesia?

Almost nonexistent.
Extraordinarily rare.

From Christopher Creighton
Without knowing any details of patient medical condition or the quality or experience of the anesthesia providers, one can only generalize, but the quoted serious complication rate for general anesthesia in healthy patients is about one in two hundred thousand.
As long as your daughter is medically healthy without known illnesses she is extremely safe under general anesthesia. She will be monitored with standard of care guidelines and the competency of the anesthesiologist will be outstanding. General anesthesia is extremely safe. Only 1:10,000-100,000 deaths related to
anesthesia. Your daughter is safer in the operating room than the drive you will be taking to the surgery center or hospital for her procedure. She will do fantastic!
