What are some potential side effects of local anesthetics?

My elderly father needs a procedure done under local anesthetics. I want to know what are some potential side effects of local anesthetics?

True allergy to local anesthetics is very rare. Depending on his procedure, the chance of getting a toxic dose is nearly impossible. Where the local anesthetic is injected, a bruise and some soreness is likely to develop. I know of no other "side effects."
Local anesthetics in usual doses have minimal effects. Allergies, dizziness, drowsiness, and convulsions could happen in repeated doses.
