By definition, diarrhea means unformed stools, usually more than 3 per day, or at least a change from the usual pattern. It is then divided into acute or chronic, the latter being diarrhea > 3-4 weeks. You don't need to do anything necessarily. Just watch for blood in stool, weight loss. If it lasts more than 3 weeks then seek medical attention.
He could have loose stool from dietary changes such as increased juice, or fiber intake. Other cause include infection. If the diarrhea persist more than 2 weeks, consult your Pediatric gastroenterologist for evaluation of chronic diarrhea.
You should take your son to a doctor’s office for an evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
Hope he gets better soon.
If it was just one a day, this is probably due to his diet. Avoid too much juice. Give more fiber in the diet to make stools bulkier. If the stools were foul smelling or multiple times a day, he may have a virus. If it continues, further work-up may be needed.
