I am a 22 year old female and I want to get veneers. What are the disadvantages of veneers?

Veneers stain and come for they are just bonded to the front of the tooth but a porcelin crown costs the same but lasts years longer
If your teeth have no fillings, veneers may not be answer. You might want to consider bleaching which is less money and will not destroy tooth structure. If your teeth are not straight, minor tooth movement (orthodontics) may be a solution as well, followed by bleaching. Veneers can pop off if not properly placed and you could be limited to what you eat with veneers. Biting into food could be a problem as well.
Veneers can be life changing. Case selection is important. Not all patients are candidates for veneers. The disadvantages depends on what you're trying to achieve. If your teeth are moderately to severely crooked, then more tooth structure needs to be removed to gain the best possible outcome and sometimes in those cases orthodontics alone or in combination with veneers may be better. Also, with you being 22 years old, you must remember that you're going to have to have them replaced several times in your life. Also, if you are hard on your teeth, i.e., grinding, bruxism, clenching, etc., veneers may not be the best choice. The only way to know your long-term prognosis is to see a dentist that has experience in veneers.
Hope this helps.

In my opinion, if veneers is the right treatment option for you, there are really no disadvantages. All my veneer patients are extremely happy. The only thing is getting used to the book look and feel. Also there is sometimes some sensitivity that will go away after a while.

Hello,
There are different kinds of veneers out there and they each have their pros and cons. I am going to take it that you are referring to the popular porcelain veneers though. The disadvantages to porcelain veneers is that they are costly and that they will come off much more than a crown would. Yes, the crown does involve a little more tooth structure; however, they do not come off as easily as veneers (when they do come off they both tend to give you that look of missing a front tooth). Another thing to consider when thinking about getting veneers is that not everyone should get them over a crown. Someone that has a grinding/clenching habit while they are sleeping or while awake should consider something more sturdy like a crown (which is usually similar in price).
Hope this helps.
My best to you!

There are different ways a tooth can be prepared for veneers. I HAVE to say something about taking care of your teeth: I have seen, heard about the destruction patients do to their teeth.
Patients don't floss and brush correctly on a daily basis. Biting into apples or other hard objects, using teeth as tools, opening jars, taking bottle caps off using your teeth, opening chip
bags using your teeth, etc. As we get older, our teeth get brittle. Chewing nuts, even dry roasted nuts, can crack your teeth. Biting ice, teeth with large fillings can easily fracture down to the roots. Any root canaled teeth can easily fracture. Teeth being root canaled can fracture. Raw carrots crack so many teeth. Having said that, any dental work can last if it is taken care of.
Back to veneers. In the beginning, veneers were placed down to the incisal edge. Due to patients'
lack of care, their veneers kept popping off. Some dentists started preparing the teeth by wrapping the veneers around the incisal edge. If you have veneers, you have to take care of them. Where the edge of the veneer meets your natural tooth, this area has to be cleaned. Think before you do anything that can damage your teeth.

Veneers have a finite lifetime of 10-20 years. Then they need to be replaced with new veneers. While they are usually as strong as the teeth they are bonded to, they must be treated with some degree of respect. Tearing into hard, sticky items may cause them to crack, chip or become de-bonded from your teeth.
